Did you know: Mercury was a brand of medium-priced automobiles that was produced by American manufacturer Ford Motor Company between 1939 and 2011. Created by Edsel Ford in 1938, Mercury was established to bridge the gap between the Ford and Lincoln model lines within Ford Motor Company. From 1945 until its closure, it formed half of the Lincoln-Mercury Division of the company.

During the mid-1930s, under the leadership of Henry Ford son Edsel Ford , the Ford Motor Company discovered that it needed to expand its brand footprint to match its largest competitors. In 1935, Ford offered only its namesake brand and the cars of its more expensive luxury vehicles of its Lincoln Motor Company division.
